Armed with a video camera and laptops, a caravan from the New York Immigration Coalition yesterday began a road trip to the Democratic and Republican national conventions. The goal of the New York City-based advocacy group is to inject immigration issues into the national debate by posting dispatches about locales with controversial or pioneering immigration policies. "It's a snapshot of what's going on in the country when it comes to immigration," said Alan Kaplan, a programs coordinator with the coalition. "It's important for both candidates to be aware about how immigration is affecting the country."
